When you see an advertisement today, one of the first things you will notice is that most of the models photographed are sporting smokey eye makeup. Smokey eye makeup is not difficult to apply if you follow some basic steps for getting the your makeup just right.
The first step in applying smokey eye makeup is to choose your colors. Any color that flatters your skin tone can be used but you will need three shades of the same color or color family in light, medium, and dark tones. For example, if you were using gray shades for your smokey eye makeup, you would choose light gray, slate, and soot for your three color tones.
After lining the eyes with eyeliner, the lightest color should be applied from the inside corner of the eye to a third of the way across. The color can be extended to the brow line by following the curve of the bone above the eye. A light touch is needed to ensure that the color is not so thick that it obscures the natural beauty of the face.
Next, the medium toned shade should be lightly applied to the middle third of the eye lid. A clean break between the two shades is not needed but be careful not to obscure too much of the lighter shade of makeup around the eyes. This color should also be extended to the brow line following the natural curvature of the eye and extended to the outer curve of the eyebrow.

Does Asian mean flat and plain? How can my shadow application bring out definition for my Asian eyes? Can I use the eye makeup directions in magazines? What are eye shapes and how do they affect my application techniques? Let's find out!
Eye shapes fall into many variations: Asian, Standard, Wide Set, Close Set, Hooded, and Deep Set. Each one takes a different eye shadow application. The makeup technique you use will mean the difference between a fantastic and flat look. Many women already know their eye shape. Do you?
The Asian eye is known for a lack of a defined eye lid and skin that comes directly from the brow to the lashes without a curve. That sounds plain; but don't despair. Recognize that your shadow technique will be unique to you. No, you won't be able to use the common 'How-To' techniques used in the beauty magazines. Those featured are usually only for the Standard Eye Look.
What to do? Choose a light, medium, and dark shadow. Here are your Asian Makeup, Directions:
• Light shade- Use small amount under eye brow and along the upper lash line.
• Medium eye color- Cover the entire area that isn't already covered with the light color.
• Accent shadow color- Apply from mid eye toward the outer edge of the eye and up, not quite meeting the medium shade. Blend up and out, opening the eye. An Asian technique must- Apply accent color also under lower lashes.

For women like myself with small eyes, creasing, smudging, and running is a big problem. I've tried everything, but nothing seemed to help. Even women with larger, fuller looking eyes this can pose an annoying problem. No one wants to be concerned about the way they look, it brings down your confidence.

If you have prominent eyes, then you will want to take special care when applying your eye makeup. If you are new to applying makeup and are confused as to how to apply eye makeup because things you read are contrary to what you should do, here are some great tips to follow.
The standard way to apply eye makeup is to have the highlighted (lightest) shade on your eyelid and browbone, the midtone (darker shade) in the crease, and the accent (darkest color) on the outer portion of your eye.
However, if your eyes are prominent, you must not apply your makeup this way. Before we get into that, how do you determine if you have prominent eyes?

Many women these days are learning how to apply mineral eye makeup as they have come to realize the benefits of this over traditional foundations and powders. Mineral makeup does not contain chemicals which can be found in other cosmetics and thus is natural and causes no irritation to sensitive skin. But you need to learn how to apply mineral eye makeup to get a natural and flawless look.
The first step before applying any sort of mineral makeup is to moisturize your skin. Since this makeup comes in powder form, it is necessary to apply lotion to get a smooth and even finish.
If your skin is too dry, then it will look artificial and powdered up and if too oily, will tend to melt away the powder. Wait for almost ten minutes after applying the moisturizing cream and then apply the mineral powder.

Once you reach a certain age it is important that you edit your makeup down to a minimalistic color pallet because nothing ages you more then badly applied makeup. Thick eyeliner, bold lipsticks, clumpy mascara and layered shimmery eye shadow are all applications that can look really aging and need to be avoided on mature skin. The wrong makeup application especially around the eyes, will accentuate creepy eyelids and fine lines and wrinkles. For a more sophisticated look use colors that are closer to your skin tone that have been artfully blended in so they look subtle and classy:
Base: As we age our skin becomes drier and visible signs of aging appear such as fine lines, broken capillaries and dark shadows. For this reason choosing the right foundation base is critical in helping to achieve that youthful dewy finish. Start by using a hydrating moisturizer to make your skin look fresher and follow with a high pigment, light textured liquid foundation, that will work to cover blemishes and appear light and luminous on the skin.
